The Heart is chapter two of the series' second trilogy: cask-strength Maker's finished on ten virgin French oak staves for five weeks, then ten more for nine weeks, bottled at 111.7 proof in a limited run. Breaking Bourbon: bright raspberry, cranberry, and caramel with commanding charred oak on the nose; milk chocolate and maple syrup turning savory charred oak and pretzel on the palate; and a robust, forceful bitter-oak finish with molasses, clove, and dark chocolate — prickly and polarizing.
