Vermouth di Torino is a protected designation — the aromatized wine that made Turin the vermouth capital of the world — and Antica Torino was founded by Vittorio Zoppi and Filippo Antonelli specifically to rediscover Piedmont's traditional recipes, with this Rosso as their very first product, inspired by the oldest Savoy formulas. The philosophy is "of the garden": rather than imported exotics, thirteen all-natural botanicals lean on what Piedmontese country-dwellers historically used — rosemary, red thyme, oregano, bay laurel, wormwood, gentian, rhubarb, grapefruit peel, vanilla bean, ginger — each processed individually, with no colorants, clarifying agents, or artificial preservatives. The base blends Piedmontese white wines (Bombino, Trebbiano, Freisa) with a touch of Moscato for florals, fortified with Italian wheat spirit; botanicals steep 30-45 days before resting in tank. Bottled at 18% ABV. Expect orange sherbet, fresh rosemary, and cola on the nose, with a juicy palate of orange and lime zest, vanilla, rhubarb root, and thyme, finishing lightly smoky and bitter. Wine Dharma praised its moderate, never-cloying sweetness and called it one of the best vermouths they'd tasted in months. Robust enough for a Manhattan or Negroni, and genuinely good served the old Torinese way — straight, with soda and orange peel.
